Debt Options

leafHere at Fresh Start Debt Negotiation, once we assess the client's goals and financial situation, our attorney will recommend one of four options:

  1. Credit Counseling. Credit counseling offers help with budgeting, money management and credit issues. A Credit Counselor helps you assess your finances and works with you to create a livable budget to balance income with expenses. He or she will help you develop an action plan that can guide you in reaching your personal financial goals.
  2. Debt Management Plan (DMP). A DMP is another way you can resolve credit problems and pay down debt. When appropriate, an impartial intermediary negotiates with your creditors to establish a reasonable and mutually acceptable repayment plan. Once enrolled in the DMP, you make a single, convenient, monthly deposit that is disbursed to your creditors on your behalf.
  3. Debt Negotiation. Debt negotiation involves the use of a licensed attorney to negotiate your debts to a lower amount on your behalf. The results are not guaranteed, but generally the debts can be reduced along with the late fees. You are in control of your money and accounts and repayment can generally be accomplished in 12-50 months.
  4. Bankruptcy. Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, which is total bankruptcy, stays on your credit report for 10 years. Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, more like a payment plan, stays on your credit report for 7 years. Here at Fresh Start Debt Negotiation, bankruptcy is the last resort. the attorney can often recommend an alternative option that will still allow you to resolve your financial challenges without filing for bankruptcy.
